GNU Taler (Taxable Anonymous Libre Electronic Resources) is a new secure electronic payment system based on open standards, free software, and advanced cryptography. GNU Taler provides privacy guarantees to the buyer while offering the possibility to audit merchants, making sale incomes transparent and fraud difficult. To online merchants and retailers, GNU Taler offers instant transaction clearance without risks of fake payment methods. Computations needed to clear the payments are efficient and scalable so that banks can pass on lower transaction costs to consumers and merchants. Consumers can withdraw money from their existing bank account into their GNU Taler wallet, detaching their spending habits from scrutiny, in the way cash does.

The NGI TALER project is funded under Horizon Europe (Pilots for the Next Generation Internet) with the aim of bringing GNU Taler to market across Europe.

With the first model costing 2K USD for a mediocre device (4GB RAM, 128GB storage) it’s not surprising that they’re not that popular. Their 700 USD model only has 3GB of RAM.

I don’t think this is a good idea. I would prefer the votes of new accounts having a lower impact.

I checked the images and so far every image I’ve encountered linked to the users’s lemmy instance’s pictrs instance, none were hosted through a custom trackable image host.

I just remembered I still have an old gmail address, I should probably change those things over to my new addresses.

Still not that great, I rely on the companion to redirect me to channels through YouTube.

Everyone should check out PeerTube sometime, the UX has improved a lot and there’s a decent amount of content too. I recommend installing the PeerTube Companion app. It shows a popup on YouTube if you’ve clicked on a video that is also available on PeerTube.
