I fear that Europe, as is tradition, will fail to capitalise on this moment due to internal division, with China reaping most of the benefits as a result.
I would love to be wrong. I hope I am. I feel like an EU at the centre of global trade and geopolitics is the least awful option at this point in history. Although with the continued rise of the far right in France and Germany that may not be the case for much longer.

Not that I don’t agree with the idea that what trump is doing is callous; it’s just that I fail to understand why foreigners would protest the US government in this way when their own government is in the process of cutting welfare, healthcare etc., all while being extremely cowardly in their response to trump.
trump barely cares what Americans think of him. Imagine how much less he cares what a few thousand Brits think. Starmer is quite literally just down the street and at least with him there is a chance you will have your voice heard.
I mean it’s not necessarily the retailers. It’s Canadians themselves who aren’t buying them. If I read “états unis” on a product I will look for an alternative or go without.

Although it’s not insurmountable with the advent of improved battery storage technology, this kind of dramatic change is an issue for existing baseload infrastructure. The French grid is basically designed around a nuclear baseload which many would already consider ‘green.’ Nuclear also comes with a very high capital investment, typically from public funds, and energy prices dropping below a certain threshold could impact repayment, public debt and interest costs etc.
