Marriage is more than just “k well bye”. I didn’t see anything in there about counseling or trying to repair the relationship. I recommend trying something over nothing.

Then they’re all shocked Pikachu that people are so determined to emulate them. You know what games aren’t being jailbroken en masse right now? Steam games. Because the store has been trustworthy since day one. They may break that trust but it hasn’t happened yet.
If AI would be a thing for things like translations, I would not want it to be messages or replies, I would want it to be part of the UI and labeled as AI content. Otherwise it’s noise and slop in my opinion.
I always think about the Chunnel, how easy it is to travel between London and Paris when before it would have been boats.
There is not. I tried to create one just for testing stuff a while back and the blocked me and my IP. They wanted to see my ID.
Nope, not banned, chose to leave. Realized most of my anxiety and fear were due to Reddit’s algorithm amping up my issues.
Was banned from a couple of subs for promoting Lemmy though.
hoo boy, okay, let’s break this down. Since you call her a girl I’m going to assume you’re fairly new to this and I’m not talking to someone who is say, over 30 or something.
You don’t love her. You have a crush on her. Love is something that grows over time after already being in a relationship. Girls know this. If you tell her you love her, she’s going to freak out. Real life ain’t the movies, the movies have some romantic saying or gesture that says I love you. She’s gonna run for the hills if you use the four letter word on her.
If you do it in person, you have a solid minimum 50/50 shot. You do it on snapchat, that drops to maybe 10/90. No matter what you write, it’s going to come off as creepy. Don’t want to believe me? Fine by me, it’s your life - but I’ve been there, and I’ve done that exact thing. It’s gonna be weird, you’re going to stare at your phone for 2 hours. You have no idea what she’s doing when she replies, she may be with her family, she may be go-karting, and you just dropped that on her notification. It’s going to be a notification that sits there, she’s going to be at a movie or something, check it, and be like “wtf”. Digging your own grave if you want to.
Be freaking casual my man. Remember, it’s a crush. Your life will be fine if she says no. There are many many other women out there. I know, you’re centered completely around her, and I’ve been there you’ve probably dreamed up your perfect life. Full stop, throw that all out. You’re in love with you’re imagination of her, the idea of dating her. It’s not real. She’s not that dream girl. She’s a real life human breathing woman who has her own thoughts and opinions about you. You find time, you walk up, be casual, ask her if she’s heard about that new movie everyone is talking about. What does she think of it? What about that new show? Ha that’s awesome. Hey, maybe sometime, would you like to go see it with me? That’s it, that’s all it is.
Nobody fell in love without being a little brave. If you’re too afraid to do it in person, you’re not ready to do it. What do you think you’re going to say to her in person if she does say yes? Welcome to the game friend, this is your time to be brave. You want her? She’s right there, go up and ask her. We’ve all done it, we all know the feelings, the stomach turning, the sweats - but fact of the matter is that you have to take the leap of faith. If it’s a no, it’s a no. You’re still in the game, it will happen, and we’ve all been through it - but when it’s a yes it’s a perfect moment. I’ve been rejected many times over my life, every one of them stings. But when it’s a yes, well, it’s a wonderful feeling. There are 2 moments in a person’s life that will last an eternity. The first one is asking someone out. The second is asking them to marry you.
There you go, that’s my advice. As a guy who was probably in your shoes, who made a lot of mistakes, I give you my wisdom over the ages. From your other comments it sounds like you’re going to yolo it and just word vomit something into snapchat, which I guess hey, you do you. I hope you at least think about some of this though.
In that case, you have options (but your post really does not convey that).
Personally, I’d be hesitant to moving any retirement account. Touching that at all has massive tax implications, but you could casually ask them how disbursements work if you move out of country, I’m sure there is a policy for that.
As for individual accounts, you can set up an account in another country. (I believe Canada has an account expressly for this). However as I said, tax implications. I believe up to 10k is fine, you just have to say you have an account on your taxes. Over 10k you have to report the amount on the taxes, I believe it has to do with FINRA regulations. I wouldn’t put all of my money into an overseas account unless I was moving out, that just opens you up for audits. Personally, I’d think in your case it’s safe to have a safety net overseas, but I’d be hesitant to start moving everything until you’re ready to move.
This is 100% fear based and not at all what you should do in an emergency situation.
First of all, why would you want to pull money out of your investments at all right now? Now is probably the worst time to pull out any money. Let it ride, this will pass eventually. If you touch investments at all right now you’re just going to lose money. Remember that losses are only actualized once you sell.
Second, yes you can move your funds, but there are tax implications for it. However, as other commenters said, the US is the world currency. Way more is screwed if the US was frozen. The looneys and tooneys up in the great white north would not be worth anything either.
Stop reading the news, just turn off the TV, and try to relax a bit. Yes, the market is unstable, it may even go down, but the best thing for you to do in those downturns is to just let your money sit. Make sure you have a good savings buffer somewhere if you need it at some point, but you don’t need to start buying gold or anything. We’re definitely not heading towards a civil war, jesus. Us Americans are much too lazy for that.
They’re phasing it out, manifest v2. Blue green testing, at some point you will be forced out as well.
Hashtags aren’t discoverable though, server A still needs to subscribe to at least one user from server B before hash tags will start
Very very unfortunately, Pixelfed doesn’t have a way to just start exploring feeds without knowing exactly who to look at. This has been a very longstanding problem with the platform that the engineer has pretty much outright refused to do. Pixelfed-Glitch is attempting to add in better discovery options, but for now it’s a non-starter for me. I turned off my pixelfed server because of the lack of discovery.
Ah floating point math. Works fine for 90% of use cases, until it doesn’t.
A great example is his handling of Laravel, scaling, and Docker. It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have a huge understanding of Docker - or at least hasn’t managed docker images at scale. A huge thing there that I ran into constantly is that the Pixelfed containers both are 1) Stateful and worse than that 2) depend on each other’s volumes. These are both anti patterns specifically called out in the docker best practices. It ultimately means that the Pixelfed containers must share the same host as it’s workers. He put a lot of time and effort into building scripts that would simplify the setup for a docker compose file, but never thought horizontally - scaling these containers out on a cluster or separating workers off away from the web-api nodes at all.
I spent 3 weeks trying to de-tangle that all and got nowhere. I’ve been watching the guys over at Pixelfed Glitch ( a fork of pixelfed ), and from what I see they’re trying to do the same thing. I wish them godspeed. Until then, I can’t recommend Pixelfed as it just can’t horizontally scale. Sure you can throw a more expensive machine at the problem, but that’s not a fix.
As for the last, I don’t have any examples - and I think that’s because no one else has gone on a press junket like he has. The owners of Mastodon started a foundation a while back, I think that’s the most official news I’ve heard out of them. I think that’s what bothered me - for the vast majority of people that was their first chance to hear about the open web. Instead of saying “We have a thing called the fediverse. I’ll spare you the details but you can choose Pixelfed, Mastodon, even Wordpress or many others, and they all work together”. Instead all I heard anywhere was Pixelfed. Feel free to call BS there, maybe he did somewhere and I just missed it.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you’re both wrong. Here me out.
As other commenters have said, there should never be any expectation of privacy on the fediverse. DMs here and private items are not actually private, they’re quite literally blasted out to anyone who listens. I feel like I have to say that a lot. I actually like how Lemmy handles it, it warns you that it’s unencrypted and that it recommends Matrix (and you can put your matrix handle on your profile).
However. I’m also disillusioned by Dansup. He made a great project with Pixelfed. It got off the ground and has a great following. However, I’ve read through the code, I’ve tried to spin it up, hell even tried to help contribute - but it’s a spaghetti’d mess of unmaintainable code. What irks me is rather than dive in and fix the code, help those who honestly want to spin up his projects, he starts a completely separate project (off the same spaghetti’d base that barely scales), and goes on a whole PR junket talking about it. Then when I see people asking questions of his code or how to do things he usually jumps down their throats - or completely ignores them.
And honestly the biggest thing that irked me was that I didn’t feel he gave credit to the hundreds - thousands of other people who work to make the fediverse work. Pixelfed is a great experience - but it’s one of many all working together, and the developers are a huge chunk, but you have the infrastructure, us admins hosting, those out there vocalizing it, those trying to start communities, it’s an ecosystem, and I just felt like he ignored the fediverse and instead pushed Pixelfed.
Do you have access to it? If you do, or at least the email, I would reset the password associated with it, add 2FA just for good measure, then deactivate the account. If you haven’t used it in a decade why keep it?
Okay I won’t hold it against you because I grew up Midwestern and to us Mexican and Chinese were considered “ethnic”, but do realize that that is a very weird thing to just say. Now that I’m on the coast should I call tuna casserole or taco/breakfast food ethnic? Sounds weird right?
Next time you think ethnic food may be instead think of it like non-american food. To us, green bean casserole is a “normal” thing, to other people having a noodle dish is an appropriate normal holiday dish. “Normal” and “different” are all just from our point of view.
That’s why you’re being downvote, because you’re on a world stage here, and when you’re talking to someone and calling their food “ethnic” it demeans their culture, and that is a bit insulting. I am guessing it’s just ignorance, but hey now you know.
That being said, have fun exploring your pallette! I’ve lost count of the different cuisines I’ve tried, but every one is a bit different! There’s a Moroccan place that I really love going to, and I have had some really good Ethiopian. Sushi is always my go to favorite! Never be afraid of trying new things!
(And if you decide to post again I’m sure it will do better vote wise, because it is a really interesting question ;)
I think that’s my point, that they’ve built such a easy to use trustworthy store that everyone just buys it because what’s the point of stealing anything from them. Vs Nintendo when that’s the first thing people start working on.
