One part is a reverse game of chicken, buy the dippest dip to realize most profit from less dippy dip buyers.
The other part is the assumption that this means the tariffs will never actually come or at least in a much relaxed form.
No, they actually got a pretty good reputation. They’re a big corporation with probably hundreds of devs in their HQ. It’s not unlikely that a whole bunch of devs came into town specifically because of them or were hired straight out of university.
Actually, they might do that.
Otto is generally surprisingly backwards. They still can’t even handle multiple vendors in a single invoice. That means, if you buy five items, but two of them are from independent sellers, you’ll not only pay for shipping three times (somewhat understandable), but you’ll also get three different invoices that you have to pay separately. It’s 2025, and 90% of all software devs in Hamburg have worked for Otto at some point, and they still can’t get their shit together.
Reality is, they will just rebrand employees.
You’re not a developer anymore, but a customer satisfaction consultant. Same job as before, but technically not a developer!!
Also, this is a great way to reduce headcount while seeming innovative to the market ghouls.
And you really think “the elites” are the ones buying and selling here?
Yes, they have a lot of wealth in stocks, but usually they simply own a large chunk of their (or their parents) company and the rest is managed by a fund manager. And if you have millions or billions, you don’t need to think quarter to quarter.
