This is why despite putting rainbows in X, or FB, or YT, or LinkedIn profiles in the USA or in some Western countries, no company ever did that in any profile outside the West. It was all for show… and money. If they actually believe it they would have done so across the board. Yet they didn’t. They were just hoping most people wouldn’t notice. Many did. There was a meme RE: this floating around from years ago, too.

Albeit not for everyone, self-hosting is the way to go. Nextcloud is where is at, even with its quirks. Also, instead of going to YT directly, I use RSS to keep up with my channels. In my case, FreshRSS for those and for everything else it applies. Watch them with Freetube.

As far as full on YT replacements? Use Rumble and Odysee as many YT content creators are creating back up channels on those platforms. The point is that YT is going to get even more stupid with the ads so it is great to options.

True, it is simple to use but no one who is a normie will ever use it. I have offered to help but if it is not in their workflow they won’t even try if they do not care about privacy. Which few do.

Was in the market for a new phone and was thinking of getting the latest Pine phone, and upon research, I found that like others have stated, it is more of a piece of kit to tinker with and not a daily driver. The OS is still being baked and at the current rate it might take a few years before it is as responsive and as useful as Android is day in, and day out. There is just no contest. Which was a bit disappointing as I actually though the OS was far more developed.

I do hope that progress is made, but, if you need a phone that works well, then stick with Android for now. Hardware on latest Pine is better than on the first phone but still Mid, at best, and it is not cheap for the hardware you get.

Why would anyone expect anyone to risk getting sued or risk going to jail for that? Fully get want you are saying, though.

The smart thing was to never trust some random upstart company with a cutsie name with the code of our literal DNA. Caveat emptor and all that.

So much wrong can be done if it ends up in the wrong hands in any of a multitude of sectors, from military contractors to insurance companies who could literally up premiums based on DNA profiles and propensity for illnesses. And that latter one would be one of the most docile of outcomes.
